This morning we woke to a light dusting of snow. I was so sure we would escape the rest of this winter without any. We had a little heavier snow fall back in November but the following weeks and months had me in only a heavy sweater, scarf and gloves. I never really needed to bundle up and brave the elements.
Snow: the perfect time to bundle up under a comfy hand stitched quilt; so I decided to take my quilt along project out into the backyard to capture my progress. It’s been slow going, perhaps because the weather has been so mild and has called me outside to tend and ready the gardens. I did get one full wedding ring stitched and have moved on to capture and stitch the joining ring.
I have abandoned the quilting stand and prefer to quilt with the hoop on my lap.
This close up actually alerted me to stitches pulling out. I need to go back and fix this.

You are so very welcome. This quilt is simply gorgeous. It reminds me of the quilts my grandmother use to make. Quilting outside by this stream is a great idea. If I had one near my house, I would be out there all the time. Nothing can soothe me like the sound water moving. Beautiful post, thank you for including me.

Thank you Bella. It is a gorgeous quilt top thanks to a Goodwill find of $3.99. Bought this hand pieced quilt top and am hand quilting it now. The more I work on it the more I am convinced this was a pretty older piece that was never finished. The fabric patterns remind me of grandma’s apron patterns. I am sure there will be some quilting time by the stream in the warmer weather but for now just took it outside to snap the photo’s.

The pictures in the snow are stunning! It really makes the quilt pop. I really like your colored thread too, I am not that brave yet! Alas, it is too cold here to go outside and quilt, but I love,the thought and look forward to trying that later this spring. I think I finally got the follow button to work, I thought I had it, but have missed your posts, so obviously not! Glad we are now synced up. 😍

Thank you Kathy, I thought so too about the pop! Oh – I wasn’t quilting outside, just took the pics outside. Your not brave enough for colored thread yet and I am not brave enough for outdoor winter quilting – LOL. Thank you also for following along and the encouragement!

Jeez–I love that quilt and covet it! The red polka dot fabric is such fun and your stitching looks just right on it. You obviously have a fan in the deer–maybe she wishes she could curl up under your warm quilt! And, yes, Bella’s words remind us we can make a difference in these unhappy times.

Working this piece I have really been thinking about the fabric used and the time period it may have been from. 2 different red polka dot fabric~ any thoughts on a time period? (this is the goodwill find with unknown history)

Amazing quilt photographed in a gorgeous location with the very best interested neighbor!! Who could ask for anything more?? You are making good progress on your DWR and it is going to be fantastic! Funny how a photo will pick up what our eyes don’t see.

I’m looking at your snow picture and I came home last night to find a whole bunch of daffodils blooming! It is the start of outdoor work… I am going to have to concentrate more on finding time to quilt. Your wedding ring looks like it is a lot of fun to quilt!
