Please help me date this beautiful Dresden Plate quilt that I found at our local Goodwill. She is just lovely and in almost pristine condition. Aside for half dozen small size rusty looking spots, I can find nothing else wrong with her.
The back is a solid white, heavy, coarse cotton, the same as used on the front.
While material patterns are reproduced, I have enlarged two sections of material I am hoping will give you a clue.

In the photo above you can see one of those tiny spots. When I first brought her home she was dirty, with numerous yellowish discolored areas. A good dry cleaning and she cleaned up beautifully.
The quilt measures 61″ X 81″ and each plate block measures 15″ X 15″ What concerns me about her is the connecting stitching of the plate blocks which appears way to tight to be hand stitched and seems to me to be machine stitched (?) They most certainly could be.
I would love to hear from you with any thoughts or opinions on the age and construction of this beauty.

My guess… a few pieces might be late1920’s mostly 1930’s into some 1940’s… there are feed sacks used, the darker pink and the pieces ,yellow and pink with little dolls are as is Mickey Mouse ,and the aqua . The white is either feed sack or muslin . Beautiful quilt!

Now I am not a professional but I think I see some 1930’s or maybe some 1970’s? If feed sack then it must be in the ’30’s or ’50’s. Someone more knowledgeable than me will help you I am sure. Hugs

You have the most amazing luck at your Goodwill store! I’ve never seen this variation of the Dresden plate, with the pointy pink design on top of the traditional “plate”–it’s really striking!

I am not sure if it’s amazing luck or just our store is amazing but either way you are right. I too have never seen this variation with the pointy design of this block and I looked online a bit for it. The center is striking too.

Quilts are dated by the most recent fabric that has been used in the piecing. So while there may be some older prints in the top, I’d guess this was made in the 1950’s. Keep in mind that women pieced out of their scraps and those scraps could often span generations. No matter the actual date of this quilt she’s a beauty. Congratulations on your find!
