Another Dahlia Panel Quilt

Back in mid December, 2020, I completed a Dahlia panel quilt. Almost immediately I had heard from a cousin, Eric, asking if I would considering making one for him.

How could I say no. (he is one of those very precious dear ones)

Here is his quilt

The panel is from the Fat Quarter Shop (online) and is from the Hoffman Dream Big collection

We had fun picking out (all via texting) his favorite color panel and then the backing – all his choosing

I loved his backing choice.

It’s relatively easy to use a sewing machine to piece a basic quilt pattern and then quilt it – one most certainly can be done in a few days. I let him know this would be no next week process. I was able to complete her in 7 months.

Now I am off to send her in the mail.

From Washington to Florida with love

    Wow 🤩 !!
You did the quilting on a domestic sewing machine? If so you’ve done a wonderful job.

Hello ~ thank you! This quilt was done entirely hand quilted. No machine was used 🙂

Beautiful! I have an unsewn panel… you have inspired me to get it out. What did you use to mark your quilting patterns? Thank you.

Thank you 🙂 I use an every day lead pencil, the mechanical kind from the dollar store. Nothing fancy. Just a light line and it never shows and just seems to disappear. I have marking chalks designed for quilting too but always seem to default to the pencil line

How lovely to have your work be so desirable that someone asks for it.

Thanks Susan – it is very lovely and gratifying however it’s a lot of work to hand quilt a project as you well know and I always wonder if a non quilter actually realizes it.

Hopefully, they do, at least after they look at it up close, and seeing how much time it takes.
