Our last posting for the 2022 year, and I wanted to say thank you to Kathy for hostessing this quilt along.
I have been working on Jane’s Quilt since January 16, 2022. It’s coming up on a year and I feel like 2023 will see her finished possibly. Hand quilting takes time, good lighting and heart. Heart because there is so much love put into this art. When I am quilting, I sometimes find myself drifting into thought and then I realize I have stalled and have just been sitting with nothing getting done. It’s easy to do that with Jane’s quilt as it was a gifted heirloom quit top filled with so many personal memories. It’s easier to machine quilt and often I think how much quicker it would be to create a machine quilted beauty. Don’t think I haven’t thought that with this π she is massive and time consuming, thick and heavy and not lending to summer quilting in the heat. Here she is and you can see that the pattern repeats on the back side slung over the fence.

I have been working on the dark colored logs these last 3 weeks and gotten 12 done moving the hoop 1x.

Another hand quilted project I have been working on was a baby quilt for our nephew who is having a boy. You may remember this quilt.

It is finished, gift wrapped and ready for pick up, actually today π

I am wishing you a magical holiday season filled with lots of love and laughter. Wishing you good health and happiness in the year to come.
The HQAL is an opportunity for hand quilters to share and motivate each other. The talented quilters below post every three weeks to show our progress and encourage one another. You are doing a great job on the quilt! The baby quilt is just precious. Yes all this hand work takes time. I have realized that I accomplished more when we traveled each winter to Sierra Vista AZ – Lots of time to sit and do handwork! Now it has been the real world and for some reason I am not getting all done like I would like to, BUT alas – 2023 is coming quickly – always love a new year! Hugs

Thank you Nanette – I really enjoyed making that baby quilt because of the sweet print fabric π

I think that repetitive hand stitching is soothing…I like the way that you described it…”When I am quilting, I sometimes find myself drifting into thought and then I realize I have stalled and have just been sitting with nothing getting done.” Not rushed, but thoughtful…a serene activity. (Most of the time anyway).
Merry Christmas! π

Thank you Laura – I like your word serene, how about meditative π Lets curl up with snow falling, a stitch here, a snowflake there, another stitch ~ Marry Christmas back to you π

Hand quilting is soothing, just like Laura said! I have to finish up some gifts as we are now having a live Christmas if the roads clear, but I will be glad to sit down and resume hand quilting! Your log cabin is shaping up beautifully, and the baby quilt is too cute!

It is slower than by machine, but I think that thinking time is really important, reflecting on whatever it is that crosses our minds. It’s relaxing to hand quilt, and rejuvenating. I haven’t had anything on my hand frame in a couple or three years, and I need to get something on there this year. Of course, there are a lot of other things I should be doing, too! LOL
