HQAL: Christmas 9 Patch

At our last check in I had shown you the picture of my completed Pinwheel Christmas lap quilt. Here she is one last time

I had a few choices on what to begin next. I have the wedding ring from a few years ago that still needs its binding completed, I have the tulip quilt top thats needs her stuffing 🙂 I have a quilt that needs desperate repairing but instead I decided on using up some of the overload of scrappy bits of Christmas fabric in my stash ~ oh and I also bought another Hoffmans Dream Big Poinsettia panel to make (my4th)

I have decided to work a 9 patch pattern quilt out of the fabrics above. I’ve got 20 blocks pieced so far.

They are all a bit different but the color scheme is the same – in the next batch I am introducing some more muted blues to the blocks.

I made a bunch of mini junk journals with cloth covers and bows using the material also. I am just in love with all these fabrics. A girlfriend had a friend who was downsizing and gave her bags and bags of fabric. She offered me first choice, feeling quite gluttonous, I curbed my desire to take it all. And while I felt like I had hit the jackpot, believe me I didn’t put a dent in the fabrics that were later donated, shared and passed around.

Thank you for visiting with me today ~ now it’s time to do some visiting with the others in this HQAL ~ links are below

SAL: Current Christmas Cards Continued

At our last check in I had completed this adorable card

Working steadily to complete another, I finished the skating chipmunk below. I added the word merry which is not in the instructions. The openings of this set is a bit smaller than the last and while no words were needed – stitchers liberties on this one 🙂

There are 2 more left to complete in this set of 4. I have this one started below, it’s the mouse on top of the candy jar.

I am deciding whether I want to stitch the rabbit. She is really sweet but doesn’t scream Christmas to me. With so many other holiday projects in the works, I may just put her aside for now. She would make a cute Easter card, I would leave out the berry and add some Easter wording.

Thank you for stopping by ~ happy crafting! Below you will find the links to the others in this SAL. If you have the time please take a peek at the others. There are some wonderful projects in the works.

HQAL: Pinwheel Christmas Lap Quilt

At our last check in I had been working on this Christmas themed lap quilt. I was making great headway having completed quilting all of the pinwheels in the dark berry pattern material. You might remember I was worried about using green thread on the gold material. Thanks to Kathy cheering me on and suggesting I should, I did just that …

It looks just fine and now I have no idea what all my fuss was about 🙂 accept in my mind I had “use gold thread and I couldn’t shake that thought”

And now the grand finish all cozy in the Autumn leaves

Autumn Magic Journal

So far, Fall as been so magical here in the northwest. A neighbor stopped me the other day while out walking Skye “have you driven down the Boulevard, the trees have all turned’ I said ‘yes, but have you seen the gorgeous red display on 30th?’ she hadn’t and as she drove off I called after her “our displays are as beautiful as Vermont or New Hampshire in Autumn’. I guess she got me thinking about family drives from New York up into New Hampshire as a young kid – memories – I have tried to capture those memories with this tall document style journal.

Sharing a few pages with you

The cover has a beautiful pieces of sari fabric as a pocket stuffed with a few goodies and a strip of vintage beading in the crease of a fabric ribbon.

The pages below

have mixed in vintage papers from a 1942 Gregg Shorthand book, a sweet hankie pocket with beautiful fall colored printables. Have you bought a pumpkin yet or set up an autumnal display on your porch? It’s that time of year. Another neighbor gave me a beautiful cranberry colored mum. I decided to set her in a metal birdcage I have on my porch railing. I think she looks wonderful there.

2 more photos from the journal

These 2 pages remind me of our sweet buddy ‘Friendly’ who visits daily for her peanut butter sandwiches. I am sure she has been busy storing nuts for winter and after her daily chores she welcomes these inch size treats.

I hope you are enjoying the change of seasons and lots of crafting goodness is being created. I am continuing to work on cross-stitch Christmas cards along with finishing up a lap size Christmas quilt.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting with me today.

SAL: Current Christmas Cards continued

In my last posting for the SAL I had completed another card, finishing a grouping of 4 vintage Current cross-stitched cards.

For this posting I am beginning a 2nd grouping of 4 vintage cards. I was actually amazed I got one started and completed in the 3 weeks. Here she is

The opening on these cards are a lot smaller with the oval shape. I actually altered the pattern a bit. The overhanging branch looked more like a pine tree branch with straight lines jutting out from it. I tried that first and it looked sloppy so I changed it to little french knot berries. I think it gave it that Christmas holly berry look which I like better.

Now on to the next!
