A New Fur Baby To Love

This is not my usual crafty posting for the blog. But with so much going on here I wanted to share a little bit of the excitement going on. If you’re not a dog lover you should skip this posting. If you are please read on.

On April 18th we lost our beloved and cherished Mini Schnauzer ‘The Skye’s the Limit Johnson’. We had her just short of 4 years. Skye was a rescue from Cozze Paws Rescue out of Oregon. She had been in a kill shelter in Los Angeles area and was ready to be euthanized.

We fell in love and with the help of Cozze she came home from L.A. to the great northwest in WA . Her age was estimated at 6/7. In fact we were first told she was pregnant and would we still take her. I admit it here, we said no but a change of heart and we said yes only to learn she had had them. We had 4 unbelievable years of love and she blossomed and become the princess she was meant to be. Here she is in 2020, in her Christmas dress, 6 months later.

We have no idea how she ended up the streets. We did do a DNA test and her pedigree was revealed but not who she was or who her owner had been. There was nothing to identify her. Had she run away? was she dumped because she was no longer useful (a breeder)? She had been on the streets as a stray as you can see for quite some time.

3 years in we learned she had the beginnings of Cushings and then diagnosed with congestive heart failure. We were devastated losing our fur baby as you can imagine. I think the hardest part had been that we had just had a follow up check up. We sensed something was up and brought her to her vet with our concern. She was given a thorough work up ultra sounds, X-rays, blood test, in fact she went in the very early morning and was seen by the emergency vet on call and then two other of the Drs there, conferred on her case. We were told her lungs were clear, there was a medication change and we were told it was not her time and no need for that conversation yet. Two days later we lost her. Everyone on her team was shocked and saddened.

Skye followed our first Schnauzer, Dusty, who was a re home brought from Texas by a family who moved into our area. They had rescued him but later had a baby and were fearful of Dusty with her.  Thru a friend we learned about him and it was love at first sight. OK this is what happened when we went to see him. My husband said ‘whatever happens don’t fall in love with him and say we will take him. We will leave and talk about it.’ You know what happened, he fell in love and there was no discussion and Dusty came home with us. Dusty was an incredible guy and his story is just as unique and sad. An older dog, about 8 and he ended up with a number of herniated discs in his back we think from jumping onto the couch. One day he was dragging his back legs. We weren’t given much hope and options in our area were limited even for surgery. Our vet at the time suggested acupuncture, that she had heard there was some good success with that. Luckily a new holistic vet out of Seattle had opened an office up by us. It was slow going at first but he responded and were blessed with another 2 t years. Meet Dusty, our best boy.

But this blog posting was suppose to be to meet Gus that is ‘Johnson’s Bougie On The Creek Mr. Ferguson’ who came home 2 days ago with us. Our hearts our full again, he has healed the ache from losing Skye. No fur baby can replace the other but there is always room in ones heart for more love.

He is a white chocolate 3 year old male mini weighing 12 lbs. Here he is on the 3.5 hour ride home.

I have started a more person blog over on blogger and if you would like to follow me there, I would love that. Look for me @ Bougie On The Creek – my blog name 🙂 I’ll be sharing more about Gus, how we came to get him, my gardening adventures, family – stuff like that.

Thank you so much for visiting with me today and I look forward to chatting with you again.

Hugs,

Sharon
